Book Review: “Would You, Could You Plant a Tree?”
Budding
climatologists and ecologists will love this catchy little book, narrated by
Dr. Seuss’s beloved Lorax. Using fun, bouncy rhymes, this Level 2 reader
explains the impact that trees have on our environment, touching on climate
change, pollution, and growing food.
The
Lorax explains not only the benefits of trees to the environment in general,
but trees as homes for many animals, shade providers, and their role in
cleaning the air we breathe. He then goes on to tell the reader about planting
trees, including finding the right tree for your area and climate, and
introduces the reader to a tree nursery.
At the end, the Lorax exhorts the reader with this
encouraging pronouncement: “If each of us—EACH OF US—plants JUST ONE TREE, just
think what a wonderful world this will be!”
“Would
You, Could You Plant a Tree?” would be perfect for an outdoor reading event,
perhaps in partnership with a local nursery to give the kids saplings to plant
at home. It could also be part of an event to plant a new tree at your school
or library. And of course, as a
Penworthy Prebound Book, the quality is guaranteed for life—if you are not
satisfied with it, we will replace it. Our books are designed to circulate and
endure, and this book promises to get kids thinking about nature, the
environment, and how beautiful and important trees are to our planet. To add it to your collection, click here.
