Goddess Girls Graphic Novel Series created by
Joan Holub and Suanne Williams, adapted by David Campiti
Goddess Girls the series debuted in 2010 with great reviews.
Girls everywhere loved the tween goddess girls as they navigate friendship,
school, mean girls, and their natural goddess talents. Now the series is
getting a facelift and is going graphic.
Goddess Girls is a good series to spark the attention of girls
who are reluctant readers. Once they actually get in the books the story will
carry them through with fun. For those readers who will dive into anything fun,
this series is also a great option.
In Athena the Brain, Athena always knew she was
smart, but she didn’t know she was a goddess. Now being swept up and enrolled
in The Mount Olympus Academy, she worries about fitting in, a very relatable
problem for tween girls.
In Persephone the Phony, Persephone usually just goes
along with what everyone else wants to do instead of what makes her happy. But
things change when she meets the Mount Olympus Academy bad boy, Hades. He is
the first person who really understands her, so how bad can he be? Maybe, he is
just misunderstood.
With the common use of mythology in pop culture, movies,
video games, and tv shows, it’s a good bet that Goddess Girls will appeal to
kids grades 3-6. But we could always consult with Tyche, the goddess of luck.
