New Series
from Penworthy
It’s
always fun to introduce patrons to new series. Getting kids to try a new series
may be a challenge at first. But if they love it, word of mouth will guarantee
continued checkouts.
This month
we have several new series to spark love and checkouts! Best Wishes by Sarah
Mlynowski is a new series perfect for girls ages 8-12. This is a natural next
choice for fans of Upside-down Magic and Whatever After.
Best
Wishes series features a different girl in each book from around
the country. Each girl receives a box with a bracelet and a note, “Because
you're blue, This bracelet is now for you. Speak one wish to make it true. . .”
The wishes vary, much like
the girls’, and always come true. In the first book, Becca has just had a
falling out with her best friend and now feels alone and friendless. She wishes
for more friends. The wish works instantly, everyone wants to be Becca’s best
friend. As things spin out of control, she begins to wonder if maybe this wish
is a curse.
G.I.
Joe Classified series, written by Kelley Skovron, is
an adventure with high-tech and unstoppable action. This new series follows 8th
grader Stan, who relocates with his mom to Springfield, IL from Chicago when
she’s offered a new job at DeCobray. Stan and his new friends attend
Springfield Academy, a school devoted to high-tech. Their school is asked to
beta test the Lyre XR augmented reality headset created by DeCobray. But there
is a lot more going on, and soon kids begin disappearing. Stan and his friends
are on the case, trying to solve the disappearances and the hold the headsets
have on all of the students and the town.
This
series is perfect for gamers who love action, technology, and a fast pace. Kids
who love reading nonfiction tech and military books will also enjoy this
series.
Goosebumps
House of Shivers, written by R.L. Stine, continues the Goosebumps
legacy with a scary new series. The first title in the series Scariest.
Book. Ever, is a story about twins, Betty and Bill, who are forced to visit
their Uncle Wendall at his secluded house in the Wayward Forest. Wendall is in
possession of the scariest book ever, and someone is after him. Soon the twins
must escape into the forest with the book to protect it from falling into the
wrong hands. This sets off a run of terror as they dodge manbats, cannibal crows, and giant insects. Will they make
it out of the forest alive? This is definitely a new series that will give you
goosebumps.
As you are reading this, I am sure you are matching these new
series with readers in your library. These are definite shelf toppers. Grab
these new series and get readers hooked on new adventures. Also, adventure is
the theme for summer reading, so these are a perfect fit.
