History is pretty spooky. It’s filled with ghosts, aliens, UFO’s, monsters, and lots of strange unexplainable happenings. The new series Spooked published by Cheriton, distributed by Lerner addresses many mysterious happenings and explains them.

Each spooky happening is presented clearly with information to explain the circumstance as well as to inform the reader of the time and place in history. For instance, in 1842, P.T. Barnum had the body of a mermaid on display in his Circus and Museum. He purchased it from a sea captain that said he found the mermaid in the Fiji Islands. For many years people were fooled. Later it was discovered that is was really the tail of a large fish with the upper body of a monkey sewn on.

This series covers everything from UFOs to monsters, mysterious disappearances, mysterious places, Bigfoot, Chupacabra, vampires, fairies and much more. Filled with detailed illustrations and side bars, this series will hold a kid’s attention. An extensive glossary is included along with websites listed for further information.

The series is creepy, kids will love it. Shelve it near your horror collection for further reading and reassurances. The series is intended for grades 5-8, with a reading level grade 6.
