Was Your Public School Library Affected by Disaster? Dollar
General Might Be Able to Help
For many parts of the US, 2021 has been filled with disasters.
Wildfires, hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, landslides, winter storms, and more; hardly
any part of the country has not been affected.
Where homes and businesses have been destroyed, so have public schools and their
libraries, and Dollar General offers grants to help rebuild.
Beyond Words is the Dollar General Literacy Foundation’s
special grant fund for public school libraries in Dollar General store communities
affected by disasters. According to their website, grants "are awarded to
public school libraries that have incurred substantial damage or hardship due
to a natural disaster, fire or an act recognized by the federal government as
terrorism.” To be eligible, your school library must be pre-existing in a public
school be within 15 miles of a Dollar General store or distribution center,
have incurred significant damage to books, media, and/or library equipment, and
apply within 36 months of the disaster. To learn more and apply, click here.
