Picture books are often children’s first literary loves.
Stepping into the library, one often relives fond memories of seeing favorite
picture books on display. Being read to by a caregiver, a librarian, a teacher,
these picture books were often our first exposure to literature. Here at
Penworthy, we will start our celebration of Picture Book Month with some
classics.
For many, Goodnight Moon is a first reading memory.
This timeless book features quietly rhyming phrases and calming pictures,
including “a little old lady whispering ‘hush.’” Written by Margaret Wise Brown
and first published in 1947, Goodnight Moon has lulled several generations
of children to sleep, a comforting staple in any collection. You can find our
Penworthy Prebound edition here.

Dr. Seuss’s beloved The Cat in the Hat has been entertaining
readers since it was first printed in 1957. The fun story of the trouble-making
cat, the kids trying to keep their house from being wrecked before Mother gets
home, and the magical cleaning crew of Things One and Two, is just as enjoyable
now as it was generations ago. The book’s silly rhymes and stylized illustrations
are perfect to introduce to new readers or as a read-aloud. Find our edition
