Christmas Board Books

For your very smallest patrons, this may be the first Christmas they are content to sit and be read to, but also young enough that board books are best for their tendencies to want to be a bit destructive. Penworthy has a wide variety of board books to fill that need.

Merry Christmas, Poky is a short but sweet, featuring classic character Poky the puppy. With tactile velveteen on the cover and each page, Poky can’t find his fellow puppies, then looks out the window to see one running past with a stocking. What’s going on? Poky will have to find out. Here Comes Santacorn is a bit timely, given the global pandemic. It’s Christmas Eve and Santa’s reindeer are all down with the flu! Who will pull Santa’s sleigh?!? Luckily for everyone, a beautiful unicorn with a sparkly horn volunteers to save the day! Each page features a Christmas tree cutout for added interest, and kids will love the rhyming verse as Christmas is saved by Santacorn. This larger board book is here on our website.

The familiar carol, The 12 Days of Christmas, gets a clever reworking in this board book version by children’s author Greg Pizzoli. Young Elephant brings home, you guessed it, twelve drummers drumming, eleven pipers piping, ten lords a-leaping, nine ladies dancing, and so on. Parent Elephant is overwhelmed by all these “gifts” and it shows. The various characters, such as the maids a-milking and ladies dancing, are not humans but mice, cats, frogs, and other creatures. Fans of Nickelodeon will enjoy Christmas Treasury, a thick board book full of different stories and characters including Paw Patrol, Santiago, Blue from Blue’s Clues, the fairies of Buttercup Café, and more! Nella, the Princess Knight tells children her favorite Christmas things, while the characters of Bubble Guppies offer a new version of “Oh Christmas Tree”. All I Want for Christmas is Ewe features beautiful images of different adult and baby animals on each page, along with a pun on a holiday greeting. The first page shows a buck deer along with a fawn, with the words “Christmas is here, my sweet little deer! The most magical, wonderful time of the year.” Foxes, wolves, cats, chickens, goats, and more are included, and the book concludes with a sheep and her lamb, saying, “But what do I want?
